Jordie Campbell Indigenous Aquatics Manager at Surfing Victoria

Jordie Campbell has been the Indigenous Aquatics Manager at Surfing Victoria for 5 years. He is a Munna Munna Man in Tasmania and was lucky enough to become a part of the Victorian Indigenous Surfing program in his teenage years as a participant at the Woorrangalook Koori Surfing Titles. Jordie yarns with Gman on Big Brekkie. Jordie Campbell said he found out about his own Indigenous heritage later in life and this event had allowed him both as an organiser and competitor to make life long connections. “I’ve met some amazing mentors who are now good friends of mine"

Jordie was very quickly nurtured into a mentoring role, coming along to programs and helping out teaching the kids. The program has not only enabled Jordie to pass on his knowledge and passion for the ocean but it has allowed him to learn more about his indigenous heritage...

The Victorian Indigenous Surfing Program is the key initiative of Surfing Victoria’s Indigenous Strategic Pillar and is one of the longest running Indigenous engagement programs in the country. Now in its 23rd year, the program uses Surfing as a way to connect Indigenous Victorians with the ocean whilst learning new skills, water safety knowledge and healthy habits. Strong Aboriginal community leadership and engagement in culturally safe and engaging environments that are inclusive, respectful and flexible are they core values of the program to ensure its success.

The program is headed up by Surfing Victoria Indigenous Aquatics Manager, Jordie Campbell and utilises an extensive group of role models across the state to run programs. In 2019/30, the program saw over 500 Indigenous Participants.
