A proud Mudburra (Wave Hill, Northern Territory) and Wagadagum (Mabuiag Island, Torres Straits) First Nations woman, Natalie Ahmat is passionate about telling Australian stories through an Indigenous lens. Natalie is the ambassador for Neighbour Day 2020. ..she speaks to Gman on Big Brekkie 3KND about encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood – be that in person or their online community. Whether through a chat over the fence, a message left in your neighbour’s letterbox, or a Facetime catch-up, Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand, or to find out who lives in your community.
Natalie began her media career with ABC Radio in Darwin in 1999. Since then, she has worked for Channel 8 (now Channel 9) in Darwin, Imparja Television in Alice Springs, ATSIC Radio and ABC’s TV’s “Message Stick” program. Natalie is also a proud ambassador for Neighbour Day, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the International Grammar School’s Indigenous Scholarship program and is a member of Cricket Australia’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cricket Advisory Committee (NATSICAC) and the Walkley Judging Board.
