Neda Rahmani Host of The Darebin Songwriters Award 2020



Inspired by the queens of carnival, Neda’s original music and live performances are a loving reveal of world pop electro, live percussion grooves, fashion expressions and songs written for generous live concerts. NEDA was MC for this years Darebin Songwriters Awards live from the studio of 3KND. Her music has taken her on adventures with the time tested party band Tumbarumba. For nearly 2 decades they have been delivering their compositions & percussive beat laden concerts all over Australia showcasing Neda’s live performance carisma.


Her second project titled NEDA - All Colour Project, boasts wider artistic expressions and commentary, modern cultural rhythms and electro dance elements, all mixed in with her songs and dance choreography from her 10-28 piece ensemble. Drumming culture, collaboration and costuming are integral to her expressions as an artist. With a passion for body art, body extension, audience interaction, fashion and costume design, Neda draws on her university studies of performance to deliver some of the most decadent concerts and roving musical entrances.



Neda’s career highlights include playing festivals and Melbourne’s venues with her concerts several times over. Queenscliff Music Festival, Splendor on the Grass, Blues & Roots, Federation Square New Years eve, Zoo twilights, The Palladium, Marvel Stadium, The Melbourne Exhibition Center, Margaret Court Arena, The Arts Center Melb, The MCG, Industry and street festivals and smaller boutique events. Neda has guested/toured singing backing and playing percussion and drums for esteemed national and international projects - Havana Meets Kingston, The Congos (Jamaica), Prince Allah (Jamaica), Horace Andy UK (Massive Attack), Nicky Bomba, M.S.O, Grey Ghost, GL, Mantra, Kylie Auldist, The Red Eyes, King Charlie’s School of Dub, Blue King Brown, Deline Briscoe, Daddy Cool and Randy Valentine.

Born In Iran to Persian and Mauritian Parents Neda came to Australia as a refugee but has enjoyed the freedom to perform and celebrate her beloved home city of Melbourne. Neda has gone on to study and practice Portugese as her 4th language connecting her further to Afro Brazillian drumming cultures in Australia and around the world. Neda has made a lasting and ever expanding full time career out of her music, hosting industry panels, performing opening ceremonies and collaborating with Melbourne’s many talented artists and art makers. Behind the scenes she is known for her unique industry attitudes, vibrant stage presence, elaborate costuming, percussion skills and her ability to connect the audience to instant intense partying.
