The Little Long Walk

3KND was at the Little Long Walk! Program Manager, Arthur Jackson and new 3KND Admin Officer, Hayley McAdam attended this very special event.

Pre-school children from Keilor East walked across the suburb on Thursday, 19 September in solidarity with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as part of the Little Long Walk. Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Narelle Sharpe said the Little Long Walk will not only teach the kids about Aboriginal culture and history but also help foster a greater sense of community in Keilor East.

“In partnership with The Long Walk Foundation, kids from Milleara Gardens Kindergarten and Milleara Integrated Learning and Development Centre will march through the streets of Keilor East, finishing their journey at Overland Reserve,” Cr Sharpe said.

There was activities such as Marngrook footy (Auskick) and story reading with food provided by indigenous company Pawa Catering.

Spokesperson for Access, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Cr Cam Nation said in the lead-up to the event the kids took part in banner-making workshops and incursions with Marngrook Footy Show’s Shelley Ware.

“The idea for this event comes out of a commitment in Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan to deliver early years resources to educate children from across Moonee Valley about reconciliation,” Cr Nation said.
